Square Enix just announced the long awaited follow up to Final Fantasy XI their long running MMO. Final Fantasy XIV.
Next to nothing has been shown or revealed but they did show a cinematic trailer with their announcement. The game will be a Sony Exclusive (sorry 360 fans) and is expected to arrive in 2010. Get your Chocobo ready.

Combining this with an easy-to-learn combat system, players will be prepared to stand against the most powerful foes and hordes of enemies.

Not alot of info about this game has been released so far but the co-developer is Jon Van Canegham who created the legendary Might & Magic series. Which is a good sign. What is not a good sign is that same guy left the company 2 weeks ago. One good thing is the company has raised over $100 million in funds to develop the game. As EA began to wrap up it’s E3 presentation yesterday I was worried that my favorite developer, Bioware (makers of the classics Baldur’s Gate series and Neverwinter Nights and the best Star Wars game ever made KOTOR as well the future classics Mass Effect and Dragon Age) would not show off it’s highly anticipated Star Wars MMO: Star Wars: The Old Republic. Well EA saved the best for last. Bioware and LucasArts reps came on stage in full Jedi and Sith garbs to present the first cinematic trailer for the game. All I can say is that it is probably the best trailer I have ever seen for a game. On top of that Bioware stated that the game will be the first MMO to included full voice acting throughout the game. Every character and NPC (non playing character) will be fully voiced. Bioware has recorded hundreds of thousands of lines of dialog for the game. I am not sure about you but I can not wait for this game to be released. This is one of the few MMO’s that I am not sure if I want to play the beta or not as to not ruin the experience. More details will be coming in a few days as I plan on posting a full summary of the game complete with screenshots and a features list.
